Blackpool Viva Casino drama to get US makeover

2006-10-20 09:10:00

A United States version of the hit BBC miniseries Viva Blackpool will star Hugh Jackman, says the Hollywood Reporter.

The US series will feature the same characteristic drama versus song-and-dance to tell the stories but will star Mr Jackman as the story follows the life of Ripley Holden, a sleazy casino owner who intends to open a proper resort on the Vegas strip.

His plans take a twist when Holden gets involved in a murder investigation before the ground breaks on his shiny new casino.

The rest, of course, is the series.

Mr Jackman will also executive produce the US series, for TV network CBS after a massive bidding war was won between CBS and ABC.

The pilot project will be made for an estimated $1 million and will also star Mr Jackman's Huff co-star Bob Lowry.
