PwC report: Online gambling will expand

2006-06-22 11:00:00

Online gambling will continue to expand at an astonishing rate, according to a new report.

New figures from PricewaterhouseCoopers have predicted a substantial rise in online gambling revenues with an increase from the current $5.1 billion industry turnover to $11.4 billion by 2010.

The report wrote: "Online gambling will expand rapidly in all regions, fuelled by the popularity of online poker and rising broadband penetration."

And PwC predicts that the global gambling revenues will reach $125 billion by 2010.

Researchers also focused on the world's largest gambling market the US, saying a $74.5 billion increase by 2010 could be expected if the current 6.9 per cent rate of increase were to continue.

There will also be substantial growth in the Asia-Pacific region with 14 per cent increases year-on-year, which will be a key factor in spearheading the predicted industry annual global growth of 8.8 per cent.
